How does Metromile work?

Your Metromile car insurance rates consist of two parts.

First, there’s your base rate. The base rate is calculated from the normal factors that affect your rates. Your age, driving record, credit score, and ZIP code are some of the factors that determine your rates.

The last part of your rates is based on how much you drive each month. You pay a fee for each mile, usually about $.06.

Each month you will pay your base rate plus the mileage rate.

Metromile uses telematics to monitor how many miles you drive each month. You will receive a plug-in device called a Pulse to use in addition to the app.

Once you plug in the Pulse, download the app. Use your Metromile login to see your trips, get information about your car, and even find your vehicle if it’s stolen.

On the plus side, road trips won’t count against you. If you drive over 250 miles a day, the miles are free.

Telematics can also help you pay more attention to your driving and the miles you drive.

According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, usage-based insurance encourages drivers to drive more efficiently since miles equals dollars.
