The Short of It

  • Amazon Flex delivery drivers qualify for free commercial car insurance coverage from Amazon
  • With Amazon Flex delivery auto insurance coverage, you’ll have $50,000 in damages for your vehicle, $1 million in uninsured/underinsured motorist protection, and $1 million in liability coverage
  • You’re only covered by Amazon Flex car insurance when you’re delivering for Amazon, so you’ll still need traditional personal coverage and possibly additional commercial coverage if you’re delivering for other services

Like all delivery drivers, Amazon Flex delivery drivers have specific car insurance requirements they must meet to be covered while working. We know you may have questions about the coverage you need.

What insurance companies cover delivery drivers? Can you buy Amazon Flex delivery auto insurance? Is affordable Amazon Flex delivery auto insurance available? How much are average Amazon Flex delivery auto insurance rates? Is liability auto insurance enough, or do you need more? What happens if you’re in an accident while delivering for Amazon?

We’re going to cover everything you need to know about Amazon Flex delivery driver car insurance right here. Before we do, why not enter your ZIP code in the free tool on this page to starting comparing delivery driver auto insurance rates from insurance companies in your area?

What kind of auto insurance do you need as an Amazon Flex delivery driver?

In addition to personal coverage that at least meets the minimum liability requirement in the state in which you live, you’ll probably also need commercial coverage as a delivery driver. Why? Because most personal car insurance policies don’t cover you when you’re using your vehicle for business purposes.

Not every delivery service offers car insurance coverage to its drivers, but Amazon does through Amazon Flex auto. So just what is Amazon Flex car insurance, what’s covered, how much does it cost, and why do you need it?

Amazon Flex delivery driver auto insurance includes:

  • $50,000 in damages to your vehicle (if your personal policy includes both comprehensive and collision coverage)
  • $1 million in uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • $1 million liability coverage for other drivers and their vehicles if you’re at fault in an accident

Even though you may not need to buy additional coverage from your insurance company if you have Amazon Flex auto insurance, it’s still a good idea to let the company know you’re using your vehicle for deliveries.

Regardless of where you get commercial coverage (through Amazon or a more traditional insurance company, which we’ll discuss in the next section), it’s essential that you have the coverage you need as a delivery driver. Why? Because you’re more at risk for accidents and vehicle fatalities than almost any other occupation, according to Crosley Law.

Where else can you get delivery driver auto insurance, and how much does it cost?

As we’ve noted, if you deliver for any other companies, your Amazon Flex auto insurance won’t apply, so you’ll still need extra coverage. You can buy commercial auto insurance from most major car insurance companies, so you can probably ask your insurance agent about adding a commercial policy to your coverage plan.

However, commercial coverage is expensive. You’re looking at an additional $150 per month on average when you add a commercial policy. If this isn’t an option for you, or you’re looking to save money, you should ask about the delivery driver add-on. Not every company offers this coverage, so it may not be available through your current insurer.

Companies that offer this coverage include:

  • Crump Property & Casualty
  • International Property & Casualty
  • Progressive
  • State Farm
  • Sunderland Insurance

Comparing rates from at least three companies is also an excellent way to save. Check out Amazon Flex delivery auto insurance quotes. and rates for other delivery driving jobs to find the best price.

Amazon Flex Delivery Auto Insurance: The Bottom Line

Amazon Flex auto insurance is available from Amazon for free to the company’s delivery drivers. With Amazon delivery auto insurance, you’ll have $50,000 in coverage for damages to your vehicle, $1 million in uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and $1 million in liability coverage.

However, this commercial coverage only applies when you’re picking up, delivering, or returning packages for Amazon, so you’ll still need additional coverage. At a minimum, you’ll need liability coverage that meets your state’s requirements. And if you deliver for another company, you’ll probably need a commercial policy as well.
